Letters from the Affair
Garner Recital Hall; Southern Connecticut State University, 501 Crescent Street, New Haven
Letters from the Affair a new multi-media Musical Theater work that I created. Featuring Cantor Malachi Kanfer as Camille Pissarro, Cantor Martin Levson as Edgar Degas, and Alvin Carter, Jr. as the Narrator, Letters from the Affair tells the true but little-known story about how the Dreyfus Affair ended the friendship between the artists Edgar Degas and Camille Pissarro. The work traces the relationship of the two artists from before the first impressionist exhibition until Pissarro’s death in 1903. All of lyrics to the songs in this work are taken directly from letters written by these two artists. This event is part of SCSU’s Social Justice month and is sponsored by the Social Justice Committee along with the Music, Art, and Theater Departments, the Judaic Studies Program and the Multicultural Center. Admission is free. I’m excited to be able to share this work again in the New Haven community. If you know anyone who might be interested in this work and who is available to see it at 1 pm on a weekday afternoon, please let them know. I don’t have any other scheduled performances for this work, and it would be good to have a few people in the audience.
